Dylan + Jordan | A Scrubby Mountain Wedding

Beers down the aisle, a dog cartel + two Mums who got a major surprise.

Some weddings tell you exactly who the couple are before anyone has said a word.

Jordan and Dylan were married at "Jeulparry" on Valera Road, Scrubby Mountain, on a Saturday afternoon in March. A hundred and thirty people, fifty-two chairs, and a paddock with that particular hum you get when everyone in the crowd already knows each other.



The rehearsal had been the night before at The Mill Inn Tavern, which is also where everyone ended up a few hours later. Everything within cooee. Everyone already comfortable.

THE DETAILS THAT CAME FIRST

Before any of the fun, there was a quiet decision made weeks earlier. The front two rows were held for immediate family, and one seat was left empty for the people who couldn't be there. No announcement, no fuss - just a chair, set aside, understood by everyone who needed to understand it.



That's usually the tell. Couples who plan a wedding this relaxed have almost always thought hard about the things that matter.

By five to three the boys were in place — Dylan, with Brodie as best man, and his brothers Aidan, Lochlan and Aaron.



Then "I'm Too Sexy" started.

Jordan's two brothers and young Jack came down the aisle handing beers out to the guests. Not a drink at the bar afterwards - beers, distributed mid-processional, to Right Said Fred.

Which meant the one request nobody expects to make at a wedding: if you've just been handed a fresh one and haven't cracked it yet, now's the moment. Let's avoid the "pssshhht" during the vows. To the crowd's enormous credit, it worked.

Then "Iris" started. The little ones came through, and the bridesmaids followed - Mim, Catie, Karli, and Kada as maid of honour. Everyone able to stand, stood.

nine years in the making

Jordan and Dylan met properly at the Flinton Races in 2016, then spent the best part of three years long-distance while Dylan was in Charters Towers - Jordan taking a job seven hours away and driving up every second Friday, then moving closer, then closer again, until eventually there was a house and no more driving.

Dylan proposed on a cruise to Vanuatu in 2024. Jordan had spent the entire trip convinced he wasn't going to. She said yes before she'd fully registered the question, and had the ring on her own finger within seconds.

They arrived at Scrubby Mountain with two dogs, Carlos and Frankie - known in the family as the Mexican Drug Cartel - and a fairly clear idea of the kind of wedding they wanted. Nothing stiff. Nothing borrowed from anyone else's day.

Dylan told Jordan she'd always been his favourite person - that her care and organisation bring calm and structure to their lives, but it's her heart that holds everything together. He promised to be her partner, her safe place, and her biggest supporter.

Jordan told Dylan that with him, love feels like home. She promised to choose him even on the hard days, and to love him loudly when it matters and quietly when it counts most.

And then the line the whole afternoon hung off:

If I had to live this life a thousand times over, in every version of our story, I would still choose you.

two mums, one surprise

Jordan and Dylan had kept one thing back for the signing. Their witnesses were their mums - and neither mum knew until she was called forward.

"Forever and Ever, Amen" and "Buy Dirt" played through the paperwork, and the beer boys, still on duty, went back through the crowd handing out confetti.



Then "Accidentally In Love" started, and Mr and Mrs Ezzy came back down the aisle. They paused halfway for a kiss and got showered the whole way.

tHE KIND OF WEDDING THAT WAS

Not a single part of that afternoon was borrowed from a checklist. The beers, the song choices, the empty chair, the mums - every one of those decisions came from Jordan and Dylan, and the ceremony was built around them rather than the other way round.

That's the whole point. A ceremony should sound like the two people standing in it.
